Description:
Modeling and Simulation Engineer (Part-Time Contract Opportunity)
Our software client is looking for a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to tackle the challenges of airflow modeling and aerosolized pathogen transmission in enclosed spaces. Their mission is to create solutions for environments like large stores, restaurants, entertainment venues, food processing facilities, and other spaces where people gather, using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques.
As a Modeling and Simulation Engineer, you will develop low-speed airflow models for complex enclosed spaces, using site-specific 3D coordinate systems and CAD-generated environments. Your work will involve creating simulations to map air pathways, analyze turbulence, and compute air velocity across mesh nodes using COMSOL Multiphysics. Additionally, you will model and tabulate the paths of single particles to aid in the calculation of UVC inactivation doses for aerosolized pathogens.
This part-time role offers an opportunity to contribute to an exciting, growing business that addresses aerosolized transmission. As the customer base expands, this position has the potential to grow into a full-time leadership role. You'll also play a key part in mentoring team members and driving innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Develop CAD-based CFD models of airflow in enclosed spaces.
-
Use COMSOL Multiphysics to compute air velocity, turbulence, and particle tracking.
-
Analyze airflow data and integrate it into a database for transmission modeling.
-
Collaborate with the team to refine and optimize simulation techniques.
-
Provide mentorship to team members and contribute to skill development.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
MS in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
-
Experience with FEA tools (COMSOL or ANSYS).
-
Proficiency with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
-
Skilled in MATLAB and Python scripting.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience with CFD analysis (essential).
-
Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
-
Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Analysis (e.g., Monte Carlo methods).
-
Ability to work independently and effectively within a diverse team.
-
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
-
This is a part-time, contract role in Houston, TX.
Do not apply unless you are authorized to work in the United States for any employer as client company cannot sponsor or transfer visas at this time.
