Senior Network Engineer

Our client, a business services organization, is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to oversee the support, maintenance, and implementation of the company's network infrastructure. This role requires an expert-level understanding of VMware NSX and AWS networking technologies to ensure the performance, security, and scalability of a hybrid network environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless devices.

• Administer network systems and related environments, including software, hardware, and configurations.

• Maintain and update IP/DHCP scopes, DNS settings, and detailed network documentation, including Visio diagrams.

• Lead network projects, including designing and implementing new networks, upgrading existing systems, and providing strategic guidance for future initiatives.

• Perform disaster recovery operations and periodic testing.

• Collaborate with the Security team to plan and implement network security measures, including regular upgrades and patch management.

• Monitor and optimize network performance, identifying and implementing necessary adjustments.

• Research and design innovative network solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.

• Coordinate with WAN link carriers to resolve complex connectivity issues.

• Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of VPLS and MPLS networks.

• Analyze network data using tools like Wireshark, TCP dump, and SNMP tools.

• Provide mentorship and leadership to junior Network Engineering staff.

• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage escalated network support issues.

• Participate in an on-call rotation and undertake additional duties as assigned.

• Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 network issues efficiently.

Requirements:

• Experience: 8 or more years in a network engineering role.

• Certifications: CCNP required; advanced certifications (e.g., VMware VCP, AWS Advanced Networking, CCIE) highly preferred.

• Networking Skills: Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, Cisco routers/switches (IOS/Nexus), ASA firewalls, Meraki wireless, and advanced routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP).

• AWS Expertise: Proven experience with AWS networking, including VPC, Direct Connect, ELB, ALB, Route 53, and security features (IAM roles/policies, NACLs).

• VMware NSX: Hands-on experience with VMware NSX and software-defined networking.

• Automation Tools: Proficiency with tools like Terraform and Ansible for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

• Protocols & Services: In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Subnetting, and VPN technologies (DMVPN, IPSec, SSL).

• Telecom & VoIP: Experience with SIP connections, VoIP systems, and carrier interconnects.

• Change Management: Strong grasp of change management processes and procedures.

• Additional Tools: Familiarity with load balancers (HAProxy, F5) and network monitoring/logging solutions.

• Physical Networking: Hands-on experience with copper cabling and fiber optics.

Soft Skills

• Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and products using documentation and online resources.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to design and troubleshoot complex networks.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills for mentoring junior team members and working cross-functionally.

This role is hybrid work situation with more onsite in the early days.
