Data Engineer - Power BI & Data Analytics

Our technology client is looking for a Data Engineer to add to their continued data growth by delivering insightful reporting solutions on the Power BI platform. This role will play a key part in designing data models, optimizing reporting structures, and driving impactful analytics that empower data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Must live in North Houston (no relocation available).
Work situation is hybrid work schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement strategies to replicate transactional data to the data lake, ensuring end-user accessibility, time-based reporting capabilities, and minimal load times.
• Develop and manage ETL processes using SSIS to integrate data from various SQL Server-based systems, including ERP, MRP, accounting systems, and web applications.
• Analyze and evaluate existing transactional reports and stored procedures to extract business logic and reporting requirements.
• Design efficient and optimized data models to minimize redundancy and enhance ease of reporting.
• Work closely with Data Analysts to assess end-user reporting needs and deliver effective solutions.
• Guide reporting specialists in building Power BI reports using data from the warehouse.
• Develop departmental Power BI dashboards and visualizations to provide actionable insights.
• Monitor the performance, health, and scalability of all Data Analytics systems.
• Manage user roles and permissions, including Power BI Service, Power Platform, and Report Server administration.
• Provision and maintain the required infrastructure to support ongoing system expansion and enhancements.
• Develop, document, and implement best practices for data engineering, reporting, and system performance optimization.
• Continuously explore opportunities for automation and process improvements using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or R.

Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI.
• Hands-on experience in data modeling, ETL processes, and stored procedures.
• Proficiency in analyzing and improving data system performance.
• Experience with automation tools like PowerShell, Python, R, or similar.
• Exposure to Azure Data Factory.
