Software Developer - Distributed Systems & Fleet Management
Remote - This person can only be hired in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida or Louisiana or anywhere in Canada

Our client, an industrial data communication software company, is building a centralized platform for large-scale application deployment and remote fleet management across industrial edge networks, and they are looking for a software developer with deep distributed systems expertise to help us do it.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement fleet management capabilities in Go, container lifecycle management (deploy, upgrade, rollback, health monitoring), centralized configuration distribution, and desired-state reconciliation across large numbers of remote nodes
• Build for disconnected and degraded operation, edge networks where nodes are intermittently reachable and management decisions must remain safe under partition
• Design and secure the APIs and agent/server communication layer, authentication, authorization, and audit across trust boundaries
• Implement observability for the fleet, status aggregation, health rollups, and the data powering a single-pane-of-glass management console
• Integrate with container runtimes and registries (Docker, JFrog Artifactory) for image distribution and verification
• Own features from refinement through production, contributing across the stack — UI, backend, and deployment tooling — over time

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building distributed systems, state reconciliation, coordination patterns, fault tolerance, and partition-safe design
• Strong working knowledge of container internals and tooling; Docker is required; experience with Kubernetes, Nomad, or having built your own deployment/agent tooling is a strong plus
• Strong Go programming skills preferred; systems-level experience in another language with willingness to move to Go is acceptable
• Experience designing and securing APIs and agent-based architectures
• Comfort operating software on Linux; Windows familiarity is a plus
• Exposure to edge computing, OT environments, or managing software fleets outside the data center is a meaningful differentiator
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

• Languages: Go (backend), TypeScript / Angular (UI)
• Delivery: Docker containers for customer edge and on-prem environments; cloud-hosted components on Azure/AWS; traditional installers
• Tooling: Azure Pipelines (CI/CD), JFrog Artifactory, Atlassian suite (Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence)
